John F. Kennedy

St. Patrick’s Day in the US, a sad one it is for me
For I weep for one who is dead an gone our own John Kennedy
A hero brave, his life he gave, for peace and liberty
But he was shot down in Dallas town in November ‘63

And when the people heard the news in sorrow and despair
Strong men wept like children while thousands knelt in prayer
The leaders of great nations came to offer sympathy
They were deeply pained by the loss sustained of brave John Kennedy

No wonder that the world stood still in sadness pain and gloom
When the noble man of Irish blood had met an early doom
With his pure and lofty principals, his high integrity
The world’s greatest statesman was the great John Kennedy

The idol of the Irish race he was their pride and joy
Their thoughts oft fly to Arlington where now their hero lies
Though many an Irish pulse will throb when the bands begin to play
A note of sadness still prevails on this St. Patrick’s Day

May God guide those he left behind who now must take his place
In a tense uneasy world great problems they must face
Neath the banner of the stars and stripes undaunted proud and free
They will follow in the footsteps of the great John Kennedy

God bless and guard all Kennedy’s that ordeal well ye stood
Even when ye were bespattered by your dear one’s blood
With a message of love from heaven above may God’s angels comfort thee
For at God’s right hand we know he stands our own John Kennedy
