Inchimay

Words: Jack Jamsie Cremin
Air: _______________________________________

In a valley away oer the mountains
Where the lark sings her notes to the sky
And the murmur of streamlet and fountain
Gaze forth with a murmured goodbye
They found them alone in the valley
A traitor had pointed the way
Their blood stained the lilly and fountain
As the dawn broke oer grey Inchimay

O that red river valley of slaughter
Away oer the mountain serene
Where the musical sound of the waters
Goes forth like the sound of a dream
The curlew calls sadly above it
Like a dredge oer that valley of gloom
For those who so foully were murdered
On a cold stormy March morning gloom

Those days have now passed on forever
Gone in the great gateway of time
The slayer has followed the vanquished
Still bearing the weight of his crime
The days of his folly are over
God will the wronged one repay
For all in this life but a glimmer
In the light of Eternity’s day

Farewell gallant soldiers of Ireland
Till those rocks of those mountains shall fall
Your names will be never forgotten
Till dooms last loud trumpet shall call
The springtime will bring to the valley
Her rarest of flowers through the years
Though the changes of time will come many
To moisten the spot with their tears
