Place Names and Antiquities of the Barony of Duhallow

Michael J. Bowman archaeologist and musician, undertook an extensive archaeological survey of the Barony of Duhallow during the period
1931-1934. This comprehensive study of the region was undertaken at a time when many of the antiquities were still undisturbed. The work describes in great detail ruins, ring forts, stone circles, standing stones, fulachta fiadh, early ecclesiastical sites, holy wells, etc., It covered every townland in every parish of the Barony.

Michael Bowman also recorded folklore, history and place names. Many resident’s and landowner’s names are mentioned in the book.

The book is well illustrated with photographs, drawings, plans and maps. It is the first archaeological survey of Duhallow and is published here for the first time.
