Latest News

The first event in 2008 of Féile Dúthalla will take place at the Trades Union Hall, Kanturk on March 5th. The guest speaker is Seamus Ó Croinín, the topic is
Where are You From/Cad as Duit
Place and Identity in Duhallow –

and the musicians, accordion & fiddle duet, Timmy Connors & Dan Curtin. It marks the first in a series of 10 talks & music sessions that will be held in the run up to Féile Dúthalla Week in November 2008. Everyone is welcome to attend & refreshments will be available.

Fundraising is ongoing and a slow but steady trickle of much needed funding is coming in.
Fundraiser No.2, a 22 track compilation CD, is currently available & sales have been good following a very successful launch at Scully’s Bar, Newmarket in December 2007. However, there is still some way to go to reach the target figure of €3,000. The CD is on sale locally at €10 per copy or by mail order. Please support.

Approximately 1,250 publicity flyers were distributed throughout Duhallow. Over four hundred of these were sent to the business sector and addressees were randomly selected from a database. The response to that request for subscriptions has been dismal. A number of bodies have made donations but most have come from private individuals. All these donations are gratefully acknowledged and will help in no small way to ensure the Féile’s success.

In addition to the local fundraising initiatives, applications for Grant Aid have been submitted to IRD Duhallow, Fáilte Ireland, Irish Arts Council Small Festivals Scheme Round 2 & Cork Co. Council Arts Office. No confirmation of funding for Feile Duthalla 2008 has to date been received. It is hoped that the Summer Newsletter (No.3) will report confirmation of funding from at least one or more of these agencies.

Your suggestions, ideas and proposals for events for the Féile are most welcome.
